Radio plays are a very interesting medium. Listening to them on my iPod feels like I am having a story streamed directly into my brain because nobody around me knows what is making me laugh or snort or weep into a dish towel, and I like that I can listen to them as I'm walking to work or washing the dishes.
Re: Torchwood Radio Plays
Lost Souls
The play was hilarious for the while that I thought it was about people being kidnapped by the scientists working on the Large Hadron Collider. Ianto is the damsel in distress in this episode. I appreciated that because it allowed Gwen to give these mighty lines of encouragement: "The exit's near the control room. That's where Jack is. And coffee. You love coffee. Coffee and Jack." Ianto x coffee is clearly the OTP of these radio plays. I've realized from this episode that, besides their accents, Gwen's voice and Martha's voice are very similar.
Asylum
Andy, you are not helping. Calm the fuck down. I was quite proud of him toward the end, though. I liked Freda and her narration. It would be nice to see her on the show. I think this might have been the one where I noticed how badass the Torchwood theme sounds.
Golden Age
I snerked when I heard "Silicon Valley." That's where I'm from! I like it when Ianto gets jealous. And again with the damselling Ianto. Ianto, why so damsel?
Dead Line
This one was intriguing from the start, if only because the teaser was totally misleading. I don't think we've ever seen Torchwood handle a case without Jack, though, and certainly not without Jack, Owen, or Tosh. I like the active part Rhys played in this episode, and every time Gwen referred to the pair of them as Torchwood, I let up a silent, "YEEEEEAAAAAHHH!!!" Ianto's monologue brought a tear or two to my eye. STOP QQ-ING, IANTO. Jack has had many lovers, but he remembers and continues to care deeply for many of them decades after they've parted. SO DON'T. BE AN IDIOT. I think I'm starting to catch on to one of the themes of Torchwood, though. (It's nearly the same as one of the themes of Angel. Why are these the same show.)
I liked the lack of Jack x Gwen in all of these because that pairing has always made me uncomfortable.

Date: 2011-07-13 02:04 am (UTC)Ianto is always rather unsure of his and Jack's relationship. Unfortunately, this means Ianto suffers a +10 woobie penalty when he is around Jack or thinking about Jack. IT DOESN'T HELP THAT JACK CONTINUES TO KIND OF BE A JACKASS ABOUT IT.

REALLY, GWEN? REALLY?
I think I just like Rhys and the idea of him being all badass and Torchwood-y. But I think he can do better than Gwen, who seems to have a lot of compassion for Rift victims but absolutely no time or patience for Rhys. I'm interested to see how that plays out in CoE.
I THOUGHT JACK WAS KIND OF NICE ABOUT IT IN "DEAD LINE." ;O; AAGHAGHAHGHAA I JUST WANT THEM TO BE WONDERFUL AND HAPPY AND DECLARE THEIR UNDYING LOVE FOR EACH OTHER AND GET MARRIED AND HAVE LOTS OF BABIES AND THEN JACK WILL GO FLIRT WITH SOMEONE AND IANTO WILL GET JEALOUS AND INSECURE AND JACK WILL BE LIKE, "Aw, baby, don't worry. You know it's you I love," AND IANTO WILL REPLY,
"Lisa!""Oh, sugarpuff. Let's go feed the pterodactyl," AND THEN THEY WILL THROW DARK CHOCOLATE TO THE PTERODACTYL WHILE NUZZLING AND CALLING EACH OTHER NAUSEATING DIMINUTIVES BASED ON SWEETS AND CARTOON CHARACTERS WITH MAYBE ONE OCCURRENCE OF "DADDY-O." THEN, WHEN IANTO DIES OF OLD, OLD, LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS OLD AGE, JACK WILL WRITE A BOOK AND ILLUSTRATE IT, AND IT WILL BE TITLED, Things You Can Do with a Stopwatch AND WILL DETAIL THEIR SEXUAL EXPLOITS AND WILL DESCRIBE HOW BEING WITH IANTO CHANGED JACK FOREVER AND EVER.AND THEN JACK WILL HANG OUT WITH CATS.
As far as I'm concerned, that's how CoE ends.
