Radio plays are a very interesting medium. Listening to them on my iPod feels like I am having a story streamed directly into my brain because nobody around me knows what is making me laugh or snort or weep into a dish towel, and I like that I can listen to them as I'm walking to work or washing the dishes.

Re: Torchwood Radio Plays

Lost Souls
The play was hilarious for the while that I thought it was about people being kidnapped by the scientists working on the Large Hadron Collider. Ianto is the damsel in distress in this episode. I appreciated that because it allowed Gwen to give these mighty lines of encouragement: "The exit's near the control room. That's where Jack is. And coffee. You love coffee. Coffee and Jack." Ianto x coffee is clearly the OTP of these radio plays. I've realized from this episode that, besides their accents, Gwen's voice and Martha's voice are very similar.

Asylum
Andy, you are not helping. Calm the fuck down. I was quite proud of him toward the end, though. I liked Freda and her narration. It would be nice to see her on the show. I think this might have been the one where I noticed how badass the Torchwood theme sounds.

Golden Age
I snerked when I heard "Silicon Valley." That's where I'm from! I like it when Ianto gets jealous. And again with the damselling Ianto. Ianto, why so damsel?

Dead Line
This one was intriguing from the start, if only because the teaser was totally misleading. I don't think we've ever seen Torchwood handle a case without Jack, though, and certainly not without Jack, Owen, or Tosh. I like the active part Rhys played in this episode, and every time Gwen referred to the pair of them as Torchwood, I let up a silent, "YEEEEEAAAAAHHH!!!" Ianto's monologue brought a tear or two to my eye. STOP QQ-ING, IANTO. Jack has had many lovers, but he remembers and continues to care deeply for many of them decades after they've parted. SO DON'T. BE AN IDIOT. I think I'm starting to catch on to one of the themes of Torchwood, though. (It's nearly the same as one of the themes of Angel. Why are these the same show.)

I liked the lack of Jack x Gwen in all of these because that pairing has always made me uncomfortable.
